Like Butter. Nappa cabbage is a perfect cross between cabbage and lettuce.choice.
This recipe leaves you with a buttery smooth cabbage with a punch of spicy miso flavor. The maple caramelized in the broiler. Serve this over rice or a grain of choice.
Ingredients:
1 nappa cabbage
1 tablespoon white miso
1 tablespoon maple syrup
1 teaspoon sesame seeds (white or black)
3/4 teaspoon crush chili flakes (or to taste)
1/4 teaspoon five spice
1 tablespoon EVOO
Salt to taste
Method:
Preheat oven to 400F
Cut cabbage in half lengthwise, place on baking sheet and drizzle about 1 tablespoon of olive oil and sprinkle salt.
Roast cabbage for 20 minutes until very soft at its core and cabbage leaves are starting to separate.
While the cabbage is roasting; in a small bowl add miso, maple syrup, sesame, chili flakes and five spice. Mix in a tablespoon of hot water to help loosen the miso and stir until all ingredients are well combined. Set aside.
Flip cabbage and pour spicy miso sauce all over and broil until cabbage is slightly golden and a little bit charred in spots, 5-7 minutes.
Chop cabbage and serve with grains such as quinoa or rice.
